The picturesque Swedish capital of Stockholm is a city of fashion, haute cuisine, striking locals, and a stunning panorama. The city is well-known for its vibrant cultural life, edgy music and club scene, and outstanding hotels. Stockholm has been labeled as a floating city, because it is an archipelago comprised of 14 islands, connected by waterways and canals. It’s easy to get around the city, and our fave forms of transport are bicycles (the Swedes make them so fashionable), on foot, and canal boats.
Head to Stockholm’s oldest attraction, Gamla Stan, which is one of the most well-preserved medieval city centers in the world. You can stroll the winding streets lined with stores full of handicrafts, antiques, art galleries and cafés. Make sure to visit The Royal Palace and the Stockholm Cathedral. Then head to the Vasa Museum, to view the world’s largest Viking ship.
Shop: There is fabulous shopping in Stockholm, all over the city. Check out the area of Götgatsbacken, where you will find cute small boutiques and design stores like Filippa K and Whyred. In the area of SOFO (the district situated south of Folkungatan), check out the blocks between Folkungatan, Götgatan, Renstiernas gata and Skånegatan, you wil find interesting shops, nice restaurants and bars. Don’t miss Acne Studio for cool jeans; and Nathalie Schuterman, located in Stockholm’s fashion district, offers international brand names. Oscar&Clothilde AB, a small interior design store with modern furnishings, is another nice pick.
Eat: No trip to Stockholm would be complete without tasting Scandinavian delicacies. The food in Stockholm is fresh and tasteful, and the city has many notable chefs and trendy restaurants. Try Hotellet or Fredsgatan12.
Drinks: We like Nox, it’s a trendy spot for local urbanites where you can enjoy a flute of champage set to the groovy sounds of the house DJ. Or check out the O-Baren Bar, in the backroom of restaurant Sturehof. For late night dancing, head over to The White Room.
Stay: Hotel Rival, luxe boutique hotel with a lively atmosphere; or try out artsy Hotel Birger Jarl. For spa treatments, try Sturebadet, which features luxury indulgences from head to toe.
Excursion: If your stay permits during the summer months, catch a quick flight to Sweden’s summer playground, the island of Visby. This is where the jet-set of Sweden and other Nordic countries come for fun in the sun. Set amidst a 13th century backdrop, Visby is the perfect place for a party adventure. Party during the day at Kallbadhuset Beach Club and in the evenings, party at restaurants like Burmeister.
