Sitting in the heart of the Mediterranean, Italy continues to be one of the leading travel destinations, with its incomparable artistic and cultural heritage. We’ve always loved Italy, for its limoncello, gelato, and fabulous designers!
Begin your Roman adventure riding through the ancient city on a Vespa motorino tour, capturing all the city highlights with the wind in your hair. The Colosseum should be on your list, as this ancient ampitheatre was the site of brutal gladiator fights, where slaves and lower-class citizens were pit against animals, to fight to the death. After the Colosseum, head over to the historic center and visit the Pantheon, stroll the Piazza Navona square, eat a gelato sitting on the Spanish Steps, and throw your coins into the infamous Trevi Fountain. You’d definitely want to take a stroll through the Villa Borghese gardens. For sunset drinks, try Casiana Valadier, a glorious palace that has great cocktails and stunning views of the Borghese area.
No trip to Rome is complete without visiting Vatican City, the world’s smallest independent country. Home of St.Peter’s Basilica, the Pope and the Sistine Chapel, it exists as a sovereign state run by absolute rule of the Pope of the Roman Catholic Church, with its own zip code and its own laws. After your visit to St. Peter’s and the Vatican museums, head over to the Castel Sant’Angelo, a beautiful fortress where you can have lunch at the rooftop café.
Don’t forget to indulge in a little Italian window shopping. Via dei Condotti is the Madison Avenue of Rome, where you’ll find luxury Italian design houses such as Armani, Gucci, and Prada. Tad Concept Store is definitely worth a visit, stock full of unique, luxury, and one-off pieces; as is Leam Limited, the Roman answer to Barney’s.
Mangiare – Enjoy cute restaurants in such zones as Trastevere, Campo dei Fiori, and the Jewish Quarter, where you will find delectable Roman cuisine with a Jewish influence – fried artichokes and baccala are just some of the savory dishes awaiting you. In Campo dei Fiori, check out Pierluigi, where you can feast on sumptuous fish and fresh vegetables. Co2 Brasserie is also an excellent option for delicious dishes. We love the pizza at Il Leoncino (Via del Leoncino, 28).
Bere e Ballare – Roman nightlife is not to be missed. Party with the who’s who of Rome, hitting up such swanky spots as Hotel de Russie (where celebs stay when in town), Supper Club, or Salotto 42 for drinks, and dancing at Sofia’s, La Cabala, or La Maison.
Stare – Hotel Fortyseven has an excellent location in the center and an amazing roof bar. Mario de’ Fiori 37 is located in a historic Roman townhouse and boasts fabulous attention to detail.
